Test-blind colleges

U.S. colleges that do NOT consider SAT or ACT scores in admissions decisions, even if submitted. The University of California and California State University systems are the largest test-blind blocks.

Test-blind (also called score-free) means standardized test scores are not used in admissions decisions, regardless of whether the applicant submits them. The UC system, CSU system, and a number of liberal-arts colleges use this policy. Submitting scores is pointless and may even be ignored automatically. Test-blind schools place more weight on GPA, course rigor, essays, recommendations, and demonstrated activities.

Frequently asked

  • Do I still take the SAT or ACT if I'm only applying to test-blind schools?

Not strictly required, but most students take at least one test in case they expand their school list later or apply for merit scholarships that consider test scores.
