1. Agreement to Terms
These Terms & Conditions (the “Terms”) form a binding agreement between you and CampusPin (“CampusPin,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) and govern your access to and use of the CampusPin website, applications, content, tools, and related services (collectively, the “Services”).
By creating a CampusPin account, signing in, claiming an institution profile, or otherwise using the Services, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not access or use the Services.
You represent that you have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement, and if you are using the Services on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
2. Who May Use CampusPin
CampusPin is intended for users who are at least 13 years of age (or the minimum age permitted in your jurisdiction). Users under 18 should review these Terms with a parent or guardian.
Typical CampusPin users include prospective college students, parents and guardians, high school counselors and faculty/advising users, international applicants, and authorized institution representatives.
3. Free User Access
CampusPin is always free to sign up and use for student users, parents/guardians, high school counselors, and high school faculty/advising users.
Institution representative tools, premium institution profile features, advertising tools, enhanced analytics, promotional placements, or other institution-facing services may be offered under separate free or paid plans. Any paid institutional features will be clearly identified before purchase or activation.
4. Accounts and Account Responsibility
You are responsible for safeguarding your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information when creating or updating your account, and to keep that information up to date.
You agree to notify CampusPin promptly of any unauthorized access to or use of your account. CampusPin may suspend, restrict, or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, that are inactive for an extended period, or where suspicious activity is detected.
5. Institution Representative Accounts
Institution representative accounts (including profile claims, edits, advertising, analytics, and any other institution-facing tools) are intended only for individuals authorized by the institution to act on its behalf.
By creating or operating an institution representative account, you represent and warrant that (a) you are an authorized employee, contractor, or agent of the institution; (b) all information you submit on the institution’s behalf is accurate, complete, and not misleading; and (c) you will comply with any additional verification, identity, or documentation requirements CampusPin reasonably requests.
CampusPin may require verification, may reject or reverse changes, may revoke claim status, and may suspend or terminate institution accounts at its discretion. Unauthorized claims or impersonation of an institution are prohibited and may result in legal action.
6. Educational Information and No Guarantee of Accuracy
CampusPin provides college discovery, search, comparison, profile, and decision-support tools. CampusPin works to provide useful and reliable information, but we do not guarantee that all information is complete, current, accurate, error-free, or suitable for a user’s specific situation. Users are responsible for verifying important information directly with official colleges, universities, government agencies, accreditors, admissions offices, financial aid offices, or other authoritative sources before making decisions.
Information presented on CampusPin may include data sourced from public datasets (such as IPEDS, the U.S. Department of Education College Scorecard, and other governmental sources), data submitted by institutions, editorial review, and aggregations or computations derived from those inputs. Such information is provided for discovery and decision-support purposes only.
7. No Admissions, Financial, Legal, Immigration, or Professional Advice
CampusPin is an informational and decision-support platform only. CampusPin does not provide admissions advice, financial advice, legal advice, immigration advice, tax advice, investment advice, career guarantees, or professional counseling services.
You should consult qualified professionals for any advice specific to your circumstances. Use of the Services does not create any advisor-client, fiduciary, or professional relationship between you and CampusPin.
8. User Content
“User Content” means any content you submit to the Services, including profile information, shortlists, comparisons, comments, messages, claim submissions, uploaded documents, and similar inputs.
You retain ownership of your User Content. You grant CampusPin a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable, and transferable license to host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works of, display, transmit, and distribute your User Content for the purpose of operating, improving, marketing, and providing the Services, in accordance with these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
You represent and warrant that you have all rights necessary to grant this license, that your User Content does not violate any third-party right, and that it complies with these Terms and applicable law. CampusPin may remove or refuse User Content that violates these Terms or that we reasonably believe creates risk for users, institutions, or CampusPin.
9. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Services to engage in, encourage, or facilitate any of the following:
- Unlawful or harmful use, or use that violates the rights of others.
- False, misleading, deceptive, or fraudulent content, including misrepresenting an institution, program, cost, outcome, or affiliation.
- Impersonation of any person, institution, or organization, or false representation of your role or authority.
- Unauthorized institution claims, edits, or actions taken on behalf of an institution without authorization.
- Automated access, scraping, crawling, harvesting, or similar bulk extraction of CampusPin data, content, or APIs without our prior written permission.
- Attacks on the Services, including denial-of-service attempts, exploitation of vulnerabilities, distribution of malware, ransomware, or other harmful code, or any attempt to circumvent security or rate-limit controls.
- Spam, phishing, deceptive solicitations, or unsolicited bulk communications.
- Manipulation of rankings, search visibility, recommendations, analytics, ratings, reviews, or institution data, including coordinated or automated activity intended to inflate, deflate, or distort metrics.
- Copying, reselling, redistributing, sublicensing, or using CampusPin data, content, or output to train machine-learning models, build competing services, or create derivative datasets, in each case without our prior written permission.
10. Platform Integrity, Security, and Enforcement
CampusPin may monitor use of the Services for security, abuse-prevention, quality-assurance, debugging, analytics, and compliance purposes, in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
We may, at our sole discretion and without prior notice, suspend, restrict, throttle, or terminate access to all or part of the Services, remove or refuse content, revoke institution claims, reset metrics affected by abuse, or take other actions we believe are necessary to protect the Services or our users.
11. Intellectual Property
The Services, including all software, design, branding, logos, marks, copy, layout, compilations, taxonomies, and editorial content, are owned by CampusPin or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws.
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, CampusPin grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Services for their intended personal or institution-representative purpose. Except for that license, no other rights are granted, expressly or by implication.
You may not remove, alter, or obscure any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices in the Services, and you may not use CampusPin’s name, marks, or branding without our prior written permission.
12. Third-Party Links and Services
The Services may include links to, or integrations with, third-party websites, applications, services, or content (including official institution websites, mapping providers, identity providers, payment processors, analytics providers, and government data sources). CampusPin does not control and is not responsible for any third-party site, service, or content, and inclusion of a link or integration does not imply endorsement.
Your use of any third-party site or service is governed by that third party’s terms and privacy policies, which we encourage you to review.
13. AI and Automated Features
The Services may include AI-assisted, machine-learning, or automated features (for example, advisor-style guidance, summarization, ranking, or recommendation features). These features may produce inaccurate, incomplete, or unexpected output and should not be relied on as the sole basis for any decision.
You should review AI-generated content for accuracy and verify important details with authoritative sources. CampusPin makes no warranty regarding AI output and disclaims liability for decisions made in reliance on AI-generated content to the maximum extent permitted by law.
14. Advertising, Sponsored Content, and Institutional Promotions
The Services may include advertising, sponsored placements, sponsored profile features, or other promotional content, which we will identify as sponsored or promotional in keeping with applicable law and platform policy. Sponsored content does not constitute an endorsement by CampusPin and should not be interpreted as advice.
Advertisers and sponsoring institutions are responsible for the accuracy of their content and for compliance with applicable law.
15. Paid Institutional Services
Certain institution-facing services (for example, premium profiles, enhanced analytics, advertising, or promotional placements) may be offered under paid plans. The fees, billing cadence, term, renewal behavior, and feature scope of any paid plan will be presented before purchase or activation and may be governed by an additional order form, online checkout terms, or written agreement.
Unless otherwise specified at the time of purchase, fees are non-refundable, paid plans renew automatically until cancelled, and CampusPin may change pricing or features for renewal terms upon reasonable notice.
16. Privacy
Your use of the Services is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, share, and protect information. By using the Services, you acknowledge that you have read the Privacy Policy.
17. Communications
You agree that CampusPin may send you transactional and service-related communications (for example, account confirmations, security alerts, claim status updates, and important platform notices) electronically. You may also opt in to product, editorial, or marketing communications and may unsubscribe from those at any time using the controls provided.
18. Platform Availability and Changes
CampusPin is provided as an evolving service. We may add, change, suspend, deprecate, or remove features, content, datasets, integrations, or sections of the Services at any time, with or without notice. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
19. Disclaimers
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE SERVICES, INCLUDING ALL CONTENT, DATA, AI OUTPUT, AND THIRD-PARTY MATERIALS, ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, OR UNINTERRUPTED OPERATION.
CAMPUSPIN DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICES WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS, THAT INFORMATION WILL BE ACCURATE OR CURRENT, OR THAT ANY DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.
20. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL CAMPUSPIN, ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OR LICENSORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, GOODWILL, BUSINESS, DATA, OR OPPORTUNITY; ANY DAMAGES BASED ON ADMISSIONS OUTCOMES, ENROLLMENT DECISIONS, FINANCIAL OR INVESTMENT DECISIONS, OR PROFESSIONAL CONSEQUENCES; OR ANY DAMAGES ARISING FROM RELIANCE ON INFORMATION, AI OUTPUT, OR THIRD-PARTY CONTENT, OR FROM UNAVAILABILITY OR INACCURACY OF DATA, IN EACH CASE WHETHER OR NOT FORESEEABLE AND WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT, STRICT LIABILITY, OR OTHER LEGAL THEORY.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, CAMPUSPIN’S TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICES OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID TO CAMPUSPIN FOR THE SERVICES IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US$100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers or limitations, so portions of this section may not apply to you. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
21. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless CampusPin and its affiliates, officers, employees, agents, and licensors from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or related to (a) your use of the Services; (b) your User Content; (c) your violation of these Terms or applicable law; or (d) your infringement of any third-party right, including any institution’s rights with respect to unauthorized claims or representations.
22. Termination
You may stop using the Services at any time and may delete your account through the in-product controls or by contacting CampusPin. CampusPin may suspend, restrict, or terminate your access to the Services at any time, with or without notice, including for violations of these Terms, suspected misuse, or to protect the Services or other users.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including User Content licenses, intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law — will survive.
23. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. The exclusive jurisdiction and venue for any dispute that is not subject to arbitration or small-claims is the state and federal courts located in Maryland, and you and CampusPin consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.
You and CampusPin agree that any dispute will be resolved on an individual basis and not as part of any class, consolidated, or representative action. To the extent permitted by law, you waive any right to a jury trial.
24. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Effective date” at the top reflects the most recent update. Material changes will be communicated through reasonable means (for example, in-product notice, email, or a banner on the Services). Your continued use of the Services after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
25. Contact
Questions about these Terms can be sent through the CampusPin contact page or to [email protected].
